Everybody loves the salt crystal "tealites" (they burn a candle instead of having a cord-- many folks love this ambience, not to mention the portability)-- and so many of us, INCLUDING OURSELVES, were virtually unaware of the problems associated with paraffin candles (they contain at least 11 known toxins and have been proven to cause lung problems; they are a by-product of petroleum, a non-renewable resource for which finding a replacement is imperative).
We felt it was absolutely necessary we provide a more natural alternative with our natural salt crystal products - after all, that was the point!
We explored candle after candle, from soybean wax to palm wax and back again to soybean wax candles, working with at least six different suppliers and sampling many name-brands off shelves.
Unsatisfied with what we were finding (from prices to service to weak wicks to burn times to the question "what is really IN this candle?"), we called yet another candle company.
MICHAEL RICHARDS, INVENTOR OF SOYBEAN WAX, answered the call. "Make them yourself, I'll show you how." (After spending the past 12 years creating and perfecting soybean wax, Michael now offers training programs at his chandlery in Iowa.)
Unfortunately, I explained, our special needs kiddo keeps us closer to home in Washington State.
"Then I'll come to your home."
In March 2004, he brought his expertise to our home, which happily became a chandlery!
